  • These injuries happen with sudden cutting/twisting movements of the knee joint from sports such as basketball and soccer. They can also occur over time if you’ve had other injuries to your knee. Typical symptoms include catching, clicking and/or locking of the knee joint. There are many different types of meniscus tears, some requiring surgical intervention, but many of which are able to be treated conservatively with physical therapy.

  • This is an overuse injury of the patella tendon that occurs in jumping or sprinting athletes. Most commonly, this is seen in basketball and volleyball players. The tendon becomes less capable of tolerating impact and you may experience pain at the beginning and after you play your sport. • This is a common injury in soccer, basketball, and football players. Most are non-contact injuries, but some involve contact. You will notice immediate swelling throughout the knee joint. You may also notice knee instability when walking or going down stairs. We perform some tests to rule in an ACL tear, however, you need an MRI to confirm an ACL tear and determine course of action. Partial ACL tears may or may not require surgery, and full ACL tears often do require surgery if the athlete wants to return to their previous level of activity.

  • This is typically an overuse injury that occurs in the front of the knee. We see it most often in runners and younger female athletes. Patients with PFPS often demonstrate quad and hip weakness, as well as tightness of the hamstring, calves and quads. It is the MOST common injury we see in runners, so running your technique is carefully assessed by our physical therapist.

  • This is an overuse injury that results in pain on the lateral (outside) part of the knee. We see it most often in distance runners with weak quads and hips, as well as tight hips. Running technique has the ability to cause this injury, so it is evaluated by your physical therapist.

"My knee slowly healed and the strengthening exercises continued to get me back on track, to the point that now I think I’m actually better than before my injury! By addressing weaknesses that caused me to move in ways that allowed the injury in the first place, Vin’s program has really been a positive force." - Dennis

"I started physical therapy with Dr. Paul after experiencing setbacks post knee surgery. After our first appointment, I knew I was in good hands with The Game Plan PT. Dr. Paul created a warm and inviting space for me to share my experiences, asked realistic questions about my goals and challenged my way of thinking, which helped me rebuild my confidence and trust in my knee." - Scarlett
